Ford Ecosport: Engine Ignition - 2.0L Duratec-HE (129kW/175PS) / Removal and Installation - Spark Plugs

Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

  1.   WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this section, refer to Safety Warnings in section 100-00 General Information. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

  1. Remove the ignition coil-on-plugs.
    Refer to: Ignition Coil-On-Plug (303-07C Engine Ignition - 2.0L Duratec-HE (129kW/175PS), Removal and Installation).
  1. NOTE: Do not remove the spark plugs when the engine is hot or cold soaked. Spark plug thread or cylinder head damage can occur. Make sure the engine is warm (hand touch after cooling down) prior to spark plug removal.

    NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spark plugs, or damage can occur to the cylinder head or spark plug.

    NOTE: The spark plug procedure must be followed exactly or damage to the cylinder head and spark plug will result.

    NOTE: The spark plug must be positively located in any assembly aid or tool to prevent the spark plug from falling into the spark plug location, or damage can occur to the cylinder head or to the spark plug.

    Using compressed air, remove any foreign material from the spark plug well. Remove the spark plugs.
    Torque: 133 lb.in (15 Nm)

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

    Remove the wheel knuckle.

    Remove the rear toe adjustment retainers and remove the wheel knuckle mounting bracket.
    Torque:
      Stage 1:  177 lb.in (20 Nm)
