Draining

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
    Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
  1. Remove the RDU fluid fill plug.
  1. Remove the RDU fluid drain plug and allow the RDU fluid to drain.

Filling

  1. Install the RDU fluid drain plug.
    Torque:
      Stage 1:  177 lb.in (20 Nm)
      Stage 2:  180°
  1. Fill the RDU with clean RDU gear lubricant.
    Refer to: Specifications (205-02 Rear Drive Axle/Differential, Specifications).
  1. Install the RDU fluid fill plug.
    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    Removal

    NOTICE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan can cause engine failure.

    Remove the timing chain.
    Refer to: Timing Chain (303-01C Engine - 2.0L Duratec-HE (129kW/175PS), Removal and Installation).
    Remove the bolts and VCT units.
    Discard the bolts.
