System Operation
Roof Opening Operation
The roof opening panel assembly uses an integrated motor and module to operate the roof opening panel. The roof opening panel switch is located in the overhead console. Actuating the switch supplies a voltage signal to the roof opening panel motor.
To open the sliding glass panel, press and release the rear of the control switch. The roof opening panel opens automatically. The roof opening panel movement can be stopped at any time by pressing the switch again. If the shade is closed, it opens along with the roof opening panel.
Global open is a feature that opens the roof opening panel sliding glass to the vent position (and open vehicle windows) before entering the vehicle. If the roof opening panel shield is closed when global open is requested, the shield will open before the roof opening panel sliding glass panel will move. This feature is activated by pressing and holding the RKE UNLOCK button. When the BCM receives the signal a PWM signal is sent to the roof opening panel system to operate as necessary. Global open operation will stop if the delayed accessory power is activated by means other that a global open command or if any roof opening panel switch is activated. Conditions necessary for the roof opening panel global open feature are as follows:
No Stop Region - Front Sliding Glass Panel
Manual closing or one touch closing of the roof opening panel cannot be stopped in a small range very close to the fully closed position. This feature is to make sure that the occupant does not leave the roof opening panel in this position because it looks fully closed allowing water intrusion.
Bounce Back
The roof opening panel has a bounce back feature. If an obstacle is detected in the path of the roof opening panel while the roof opening panel is closing, the roof opening panel automatically stops and opens to a predetermined position.
To override a bounce back event (to overcome the resistance of ice on the roof opening panel seal for example), within 2 seconds of a bounce back event, press and hold the front of the control switch. The roof opening panel operates in manual mode with bounce back detection turned off until the switch is released.
Security Override
To override a bounce back event (to overcome the resistance of ice on the roof opening panel seal for example), within 2 seconds of a bounce back event, press and hold the front of the control switch. The roof opening panel operates in manual mode with bounce back detection turned off until the switch is released.
Roof Opening Panel Motor Initialization
The roof opening panel motor must be initialized when repairs are carried out on any part of the roof opening panel system, including:
Refer to: Power Roof Opening Panel Initialization (501-17 Roof Opening Panel, General Procedures).
Component Description
Roof Opening Panel Motor
The roof opening panel motor contains the electronics that control and monitor the roof opening panel movement (for obstacle detection and one-touch operating features). The roof opening panel motor does not communicate on the vehicle communication network nor does the motor set any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
Roof Opening Panel Control Switch
The roof opening panel control switch provides a voltage signal to the roof opening panel motor. The switch assembly contains a 2-position momentary rocker style switch.
